Talk about confused. Coconut oil is meant to be the latest must have food in our diet, however others info tells us it's not good. Jamie Oliver wrote this in his latest book. I know this message has been posted earlier but am re posting to see if maddie can help here? For those who don't have Jamie's book he states that," there are many health gurus shouting about health benefits of coconut oil so I spoke to the leading fat specialist in the uk Professor Tom sanders and he and others all share the same opinion. I am not anti coconut oil but I am anti it's overuse and fictitious health benefits being bandied around. It's absorbed and turned in to energy quickly which is perceived as helpful however it is still the highest saturated fat on the planet and very low in essential fatty acids . If you consume too much it will nudge you in the direction of heart disease.

There is a wonderful article by a cardiologist in the guardian a few weeks back. Written very well. There is a section on fats - as the key concern your describing is the impact on our heart and blood vessels ie risk of heart disease etc.

As far as we can see avocado, olive oil and oils high in unsaturated fats seem to be coming out on top X X

Just checked out Tom sanders and he is very highly qualified in the fat research department so I am inclined to believe him due to his vast experience and knowledge

I've started mixing it up since reading his book a while ago. Olive oil for roasting and coconut oil for frying. A nice balance and then I don't OD on either of them!
